King of Games

Sun Dec 20, 2009, 11:35 AM
Must review, dammit! I've been delaying it for too long already and it's not a good idea. And I already wasted a full hour convincing myself to write this stupid review so here it goes.
(the following lines are spoken in a bored, monotone voice)

So it all started with archeologists, digging up an ancient Egyptian artifact of incredible power. The artifact ended up with a Japanese friend of one of the archeologists, who eventually settled down and opened a game shop. Now his grandson (a very cute little boy who is famous for having the most impressive hairstyle in the history of animation), found the artifact, and believing that it will grant him his wish, he begins to reassemble it. The artifact, a pendant resembling an upside-down pyramid, awakens the being known as the King of Games. An ancient pharaoh, who punished evildoers by challenging them to "games of darkness" that puts the players' life (or at least sanity) on the line. The young boy and his friends face many threats, including bullies, terrorists, criminals and gangs, all of whom call the wrath of the Pharaoh on themselves. However, things turn serious with the appearance of a green haired millionaire boy (who likes to screw the rules because he has money), starting a long lasting antagonism, that not only overtook the plot, but changed the world of non digital gaming forever, giving birth to the most popular trading card game of all time.

YuGiOh, is a fantasy/horror manga series created by game fan and Egypt enthusiast, Takahashi Kazuki. The manga was adapted into a 27 episode anime, by Toei Animation. The anime adapted the first seven volumes of the manga, modifying the plot of some episodes, removing others, and adding some that didn't appear in the manga. It also expanded the main cast with a fifth member, based on a one-shot character from the source material.
After the series by Toei, YuGiOh was picked up by Studio Galop, and Nihon Ad Systems, that relaunched the series as YuGiOh! Duel Monsters, dumping the old encounters already animated by Toei, and focusing on volumes 8+, bringing back several chapters from volumes 1-7 that were relevant to the later plot, and incorporating them into the plot. YuGiOh! Duel Monsters, was (sadly) licensed in the US by 4kids! Entertainment, that successfully killed the entire show for the whole world, but on the good side, indirectly spawned one of the funniest Web Original series ever. It was recently picked up by fans and most of the more important episodes are being re-dubbed as part of Project YGO. The new dubs are done far better than any American dubs I've heard so far.

The Duel Monsters Trading Card Game became a full game thanks to Konami, and a very successful one. I admit to be a collector of cards, even though I don't think I'll ever have the chance to play against anyone.

The series later spawned two spin-off/sequel series, GX and 5D. So far, I have only watched plain YuGiOh, and the first episode of the Project YGO dub. I'll wait till they release the second one, regardless of how long that will take, then I'll watch the rest with subtitles. If I can find them.

Not cut for trolling

This is rather annoying. I just got in a big fight someone over a ridiculously dumb stamp. Thought I'll have a little fun while doing it, since there's no point trying to make the see reason, and things went rather wrong. Disagreements like this one tend to be very bothersome, since they keep me awake for quite some time. I got pissed, went overboard and said a few things I wouldn't really want to repeat. Never happened before.
My real problem is, I kinda flagged that one stamp for no real reason and I'm sure that will come back to bite me in the back. So if I end up getting suspended, than that's probably the reason.
Dammit. I'll be needing some serious anger management. Fits like this will be very counterproductive when I actually manage to get around ruling the world.

A 'bout time. Night Warriors

Sat Nov 28, 2009, 11:45 AM
Okay, let's get this over with.

This is a very short series released for video, yet there's still plenty of things to say about it, but I'll try to keep short.

The story starts with dark lord Demitry Maximoff, preparing to settle a score with his old enemy Morrigan Aenslaed, and attempt to claim lordship over the Demon World. His opressed human subjects decide to take the opportunity, to rebel. The confrontation is cut short with the appearance of an army of phobos, ancient machines of unknown origin, that immediately begin exterminating Earth's population. The sudden development ignites the tension between humanity and the creatures of darkness, leading to open war. Caught between the mechanical invaders, and the high and mighty military, the innocents' place all their hopes in a catgirl and a werewolf to protect them from certain destruction. All the while, one lone halfblood and two undead sisters hunt for the source of the upcoming apocalypse.
That's the story in a nutshell. Night Warriors is a 160 minute direct-to video adaption of the popular Capcom fighting game, Darkstalkers, finally giving the games an adaption it deserves (after a ridiculous, goofy, cheap and so bad it's hillarious american cartoon).
I admit to never playing the game. But I'm familiar with the characters, thanks to MUGEN.

The Culture Fest

Fri Nov 20, 2009, 7:55 AM
Well it ended last week, I was just too lazy to write anything about it so far.
I'm not gonna go into too many details. So here are a few pictures I uploaded to Photobucket.
[link]
[link]
These are pictures taken from the Headquarters. The CPJ is based on the second floor of the building (the first one is a Beauty Saloon regularly visited by old ladies of 60 and above). Recently, the Seireitei Manga CLub has also moved in to the same place, and they brought their collection with them, which can be seen in the second picture.

[link]
These were taken from a workshop course a week before the beginning of the Culture Festival. We made those funny little charms I posted a picture about.

I took these on the meeting right before the Culture Festival. We were making preparations for the opening ceremony. The items feature several pieces of origami, made by one of the members, and a paper-craft castle made by another regular, with an engineering degree. The people sitting at the table are mister Kawai, the foreman, Minodora, our secretary, two other members, and a regular girl who's name I just keep forgetting.
[link]
This was taken at the opening ceremony. New faces include the principal of David Prodan general school and mister Marinescu, a Romanian haiku writer who writes 'free haiku' that don't follow the 5-7-5 rule (don't ask), and has an ego about the size of the whole room (But enough about that - I may not like him, but I really shouldn't be talking behind his back). I don't remember the third guy, but He could've been one of his colleagues.
[link]
[link]
The day after the opening ceremony. A guest called professor Sasaki explained her impressions about the country. The other guests, Junko and Naoko, also performed a song.
[link]
The day I left for home after the first week. professor Sasaki was showing us how to make these cards. Minodora's sister is working with a piece of origami paper I salvaged from one of my failed attempts.
[link]
I was more successful with the origami we made the following week. The Kusudama I'm holding was made entirely by me. But now that I think about it, I should've used some deeper colors instead. The girls are a regular, and a guest (no names, my memory is terribly leaky).
[link]
This was taken directly after the Origami course when most of the visitors left. Mister and Mrs Kawai are talking with Junko and Naoko. Minodora is serving tea. The girl in pink is a member of Seireitei if I recall correctly.
This concludes the pictures. I'll be posting more here on DA tomorrow. Too bad I couldn't take any at the closing ceremony. We had another guest, mister Takagi, who also got an introduction on the night after the closing ceremony. That was another joint meeting with the Seireitei. Luckly, I managed to endure it however. And the treats (including Dango) served after that were compensation enough.
